I am a Polestar-certified Mat Pilates teacher based in Sheffield in the UK. I simply love moving with the Pilates method, which has brought me so many benefits (seriously, I could go on about it for hours!).

I was introduced to Pilates by my physiotherapist, who I was seeing for an ankle injury alongside back, neck and shoulder pain associated with chronic repetitive strain injury. I was sceptical at first, as I had always been an active person and other forms of exercise only ever resulted in temporary improvements. But I experienced changes in my body really quickly. I felt more focused and energised after each class, and after just a month of regular practice doing 2 sessions a week, I was hooked! I noticed changes in how I walked and lifted things, and I literally stood taller. I started to know and trust my body’s movements in ways I had never done before. And, after years of chronic pain, I finally started to believe that recovery was possible and that there was a whole new potential for my body to explore!

It left me hungry for more, and I started my Mat Pilates teacher training in September 2020 with Polestar Pilates, an international authority in Pilates education. The Polestar curriculum is renowned for integrating the latest research and best practices from movement science, and not only teaches the Pilates exercises but also how to thoughtfully assess and understand a client’s needs and goals. Since then I have undertaken further training with Polestar, deepening my knowledge of supporting clients in moving efficiently and pain-free using the Pilates equipment (Reformer, Trapeze Table, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, and the Chair), certifying as a Comprehensive Pilates teacher in November 2023.

Like Joseph Pilates, I firmly believe that “change happens through movement and movement heals”. When we not only move more but also better and mindfully, we get to experience this more deeply and progress faster. I feel the benefits in everything I do, whether this is standing in a queue at the supermarket or climbing up a mountain with my dog.
